Branches and sections
IKM members are organised by district into branches and sections, according to the number of members in each district. Branches and Sections are the link that keeps members close to the Institute: they host Continuing Professional Development training in the districts, the annual meetings that elect representatives to the General Assembly, the discussion of the General Assembly’s agenda and the collection of members’ proposals for the following year’s programmes.
Sections are created in districts with up to 20 members; several neighbouring sections may be joined into a branch. The governing bodies are elected by secret ballot for a four-year term, with the right to be re-elected only once. The term of the current bodies began on 4 October 2025.
What branches and sections do
- Representation at the Assembly. When the General Assembly is held with representatives, the meetings of the branches and sections are held within 15 days of the notice of the agenda and elect one representative for every four members of the Public Register. Members of the Managing Council, the Internal Audit Committee and the Quality Management Committee are elected representatives.
- Informing members. The decisions of the Assembly are sent to the branches and sections within 30 days and are announced at their next meeting.
- Continuing Professional Development in the districts. Continuing Professional Development sessions are also organised at the branches, so that members do not have to travel for every training.
- Proposals for the programmes. By November, the branches gather members’ views on the training topics for the following year and pass them on to the Education and Professional Qualification Committee.
- Registrations. Applications for membership may also be submitted at the branch or section, which forwards them to the IKM Secretariat every month.
- Advising the Managing Council. The chairs of the branches and sections make up the Council of Branch and Section Chairs, an advisory body of the Managing Council on matters of management, legislation and the profession. The Chair of the Tirana Branch is also a member of the Managing Council.
