Memberships
Membership of the international organisations of the profession is one of IKM’s statutory objectives and the way in which the profession of Certified Accountant in Albania connects with global standards and practices. Membership brings concrete obligations — concerning the standards adopted, education, quality and discipline — and forms the basis of the periodic assessment of IKM by the organisation of which it is a member.
Associate member since 2012 and full member since November 2019
International Federation of Accountants (IFAC)
IFAC is the global organisation for the accountancy profession, with member organisations in more than 130 countries. IKM was admitted as an associate member in 2012 and, following an assessment by the Compliance Advisory Panel and approval by the Board, the IFAC Council admitted it as a full member at its meeting of November 2019 in Vancouver.
IFAC membership rests on the Statements of Membership Obligations (SMOs), which IKM fulfils and reports on through its SMO Action Plan, updated regularly and published on the IFAC website:
- SMO 1 — quality assurance system: the Quality Management Review for Certified Accountants and Accounting Firms;
- SMO 2 — International Education Standards: the Initial Professional Development (IPD) training and Continuing Professional Development;
- SMO 3 — IAASB standards: ISQM 1 as the basis of quality management;
- SMO 4 — IESBA Code of Ethics: the Code of Ethics for Certified Accountants;
- SMO 5 — International Public Sector Accounting Standards: support for public sector accounting reform;
- SMO 6 — investigation and discipline: the Investigation Committee and the Disciplinary Committee;
- SMO 7 — International Financial Reporting Standards: contribution to the adoption and implementation of IFRS.
IKM representatives take part in IFAC Council meetings, in the World Congress of Accountants and in IFAC programmes for the development of member organisations. → Projects
